Second guessing
Today happened to be a little bit of a bitter sweet day. Waking up at the usual time of 6AM Trev and I struggled to open our eyelids one more day here at Croydon. Brendan had arranged to be in town today to handle some cattle sales he had in place leaving us the ranch to operate for the day. These days provide a little bit more of a slack day than the expected while the big boss is here. We still had all of our chores to do but we could handle them in a way that we felt would be most suitable for the day along with a choice of some electro and house music in the background to make the chores pass by a little quicker with interruptions of shoveling shit with a little fist pumping, lip syncing or stalling for a build up in a song and then the big drop.
About mid day, Trev and I reflected on where we were, what we're doing and what we wanted to do. Almost like hitting that time when the honey moon breaks in a relationship, we had felt we have already lived and experienced all we wanted at Croydon Ranch away from civilization and a busy night life, or even a night life that extends past 8PM.
We started ruffling through booklets I had picked up along our way to Toowoomba that outlined things to do in Queensland and also places to stay. The thought of traveling back to Brisbane sparked an interest for both of us and in typical Katie B style, my compulsiveness kicked in and Trevor reluctantly followed. Before we knew it, we were putting in calls to hostels looking to see if any of them were looking to employ a brother and sister from Canada. We built our resumes to cater to this and sent out emails with some of the hostels we had a good chat with that seemed promising.
After our break of searching for our next possible destination, we got back to work and the rain started to roll in. 5PM rolled around and Brendan pulled into the driveway. We retired the horses for the night and headed back to the house. Trev jumped in the shower immediately while I caught up on some reading while I waited my turn. I ended up having quite a pleasant interruption though. Brendan came out onto the front porch that comes out from mine and Trev's room and also the kitchen that we have claimed. He sat down and caringly asked me how we were doing here and if there was anything he could do to make us feel more at home, more comfortable and enjoy our stay here with him and repeatedly apologized for the condition of the house (He recently took over his family home that requires a lot of work and he just doesn't have the time to do an overhaul). He also went into depth about how happy he is with our work we're doing for him and that he's really pleased with our progress and dedication we have.
Brendan's hospitality, general concern and care for us made me think again about the opportunity we have been offered. His timing to sit down and chat with me about all of this couldn't have come at a better time. Looks like our stay at Croydon might extend a little bit longer before we head to a big city.
